The Bihar Cabinet has broadcasted as an encouragement the incentives of Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000 to students of Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) for qualifying the preliminary test of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exams respectively.
“Under the SC or ST scheme of the Welfare Department, the Bihar state cabinet has confirmed to give Rs 50,000 as one-time amount to any SC/ST candidate clearing the BPSC prelims and Rs 1 lakh on clearing the UPSC prelims,” said principal secretary, Arun Kumar Singh, cabinet secretariat department.
“Preparations for civil services exams that may be conducted by the UPSC or the BPSC, and this often require candidates to stay away from their home towns in different places that offer good facilities to promote studying. This move is aiming at helping and promoting the bright aspirants so that they do not move away from concentrating on their studies and also need not keep worrying about expenses”, said Singh.
The Bihar government Nitish Kumar-led has approved the “Mukhyamantri Anusuchit Jati Evam Anusuchit Janjati Civil Seva Protsahan Yojana” to assist bright aspirants in SC or ST so that they focus in their studies without bothering about the expenses.
The scheme is the chief minister’s flagship Student Credit Card scheme follow-up. Under this scheme, students having a family income less than Rs 1.5 lakh and have passed XII class are considered eligible for a loan up to Rs. 4 lakh.
The Cabinet has decided to provide Rs 1,000 to each SC/ST student as an incentive for hostel and 15kg free supply food grain to the hostels.
Recently, the Government also extended all schemes in the state for ‘Mahadalits’ right from provding land for housing or Dashrath Manjhi Skill Development scheme to the SC and St categories.
